A weak chin creates an unbalanced profile and detracts from the look of your entire face. A weak chin can create the appearance of a larger nose and fleshy neck and jowls.
NON-SURGICAL SOLUTIONS
FOR WEAK CHIN
Chin augmentation balances the profile, and while the change in your chin will be natural and subtle, the improvement to the overall appearance of your face will be remarkable. Dr. Rivkin uses a non-invasive chin enhancement technique, which is safe, reliable, and requires very little recovery time.
Traditional chin augmentation involves the surgical placement of silicone chin implants under the skin. The risks include:
- Infection of the implant – this is rare, but if it happens it can cause scarring that can be disfiguring because the implant has to be removed
- Scarring – the chin augmentation procedure itself can result in an unwanted scar
- Implant shift – if the implant moves out of position, your chin can appear asymmetric
- Improperly sized implant – if the implant is too wide or too projected or doesn’t fit your face, it will have to be removed and redone
That being said, for patients who need significant projection to their chin, a surgical implant may still be the only way to achieve the results they need. If that is determined during the consultation, we will bring in our expert facial plastic surgeon to evaluate your candidacy for surgery.
We use Voluma or Radiesse for our Non-Surgical Chin Augmentation. Voluma is a Hyaluronic acid filler that produces great natural results, is reversible at any time and lasts about one to one and a half years. Radiesse is a calcium based filler that is thick and really projects the skin significantly. It lasts about ten to twelve months. The procedure takes about 15 minutes to perform. There is little discomfort, but we usually use numbing cream and ice to make the experience more pleasant. We encourage our Non-Surgical Chin Enhancement patients to come back to clinic two to four weeks after the initial procedure for a touch up if necessary.
Dr. Rivkin’s method typically results in one to three days of minor swelling. There is rarely any bruising or tenderness.
LESS PAIN AND MORE GAIN
Non-surgical chin augmentation will last about one and a half to two years, and allows for adjustments, which compliment the natural changes in your face. Traditional chin implants are permanent and may no longer be attractive as your face changes with time.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Rivkin will evaluate your existing profile, desired end results, and explain the procedure in detail. You will have the opportunity to view before and after photos, so that you will know exactly what to expect from the treatment.

Yes, Bellafill is an excellent option for achieving a long-lasting and subtle chin augmentation. We often recommend Bellafill to patients who have previously tried temporary fillers and were pleased with the results. The advantage of Bellafill is its ability to provide precise shaping of the area according to individual preferences. It's important to note that Bellafill doesn't offer as much projection as a solid implant, so patients with significant chin deficiency may be referred for surgical correction. Bellafill typically requires minimal touch-ups, with most people enjoying its effects for 7 years or more. Our experience of over a decade with Bellafill has shown that patients appreciate the natural and long-lasting results it creates.

To reduce the crease on the sides of your chin, a combination treatment of Botox and filler is recommended. Botox can be injected strategically into the mentalis muscle to relax it, softening the ridge created when you smile. A few units of Botox under the jawline, along the platysmal muscle, can also help reduce the appearance of ""extra skin"" under the chin. This Botox treatment is quick and easy, with minimal downtime, and its effects last for about 3 months.
Using fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, or Radiesse, we can inject them within the fold to achieve a smoother look. Since this is a dynamic fold, especially visible during heavy smiling, filler can further soften its appearance. Depending on the filler used, the results can last anywhere from 8 months to over 2 years. Some bruising or swelling may occur after the treatment, which typically lasts up to 2 weeks but is usually mild and can be easily covered with makeup.
