WHAT IS THERMAGE?
The Thermage procedure is a safe, effective way to tighten loose skin all over the body without the risk, downtime or expense of surgery. Our patients tell us that the discomfort with the procedure is mild.
They consider Thermage to be the least painful skin tightening technology. Thermage technology is not a laser–it is a device that delivers monopolar radiofrequency energy down to the deeper layers of the skin, treating a large volume of tissue with each REP (radiofrequency energy pulse), stimulating the production of new collagen and causing the existing collagen to interlace, thus tightening and remodeling the skin above.
The Thermage procedure is cleared by the FDA for the non-invasive, non-ablative, treatment of wrinkles and skin tightening for all skin types. For patients with sagging or loose skin on the face or body, Thermage helps to promote the process of new collagen production. The result is a smoother, sleeker and younger look without downtime.
When used on the upper and lower eye area, Thermage helps to smooth fine lines and wrinkles. The upper and lower eyelids are often difficult to treat with other methods, as the skin is very delicate and thin. Thermage is a fantastic way to smooth droopy or wrinkled skin all over the face. When used on the body, Thermage will smooth bulges and dimpled skin. It can be an effective treatment for stretch marks on the abdomen or hips as well.
Thermage is a one-time procedure and there is no need to purchase a series of treatments. However, as our patients age, many choose to repeat their Thermage treatments on a regular basis, to keep up with the aging process.
The procedure takes about 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the areas that are treated. Improvements are both immediately visible and continue for up to six months, as new collagen grows. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition and aging process.
Thermage is a perfect solution for anyone suffering from sagging skin around the jawline or under the chin, wrinkles around the eye area or areas of overly wrinkled skin on the body. For patients that want smoother, sleeker and younger looking skin, Thermage can deliver great results.
For those that prefer a completely non-invasive way to correct aging skin, this is a great option. Thermage is also a natural approach to defying age gracefully, by gently stimulating your own collagen production.
The procedure is minimally uncomfortable, so there is no need for topical numbing creams or sedation. However, for those with a low pain tolerance, we do offer oral pain medication.
Thermage is FDA approved and safe to use on virtually all skin types. It is perfectly safe to receive additional procedures every year, as needed. Many patients have reported that their results have lasted several years.
At RIVKIN Aesthetics, we believe in a holistic approach to beauty and anti-aging. Depending on your issue and level of severity, it may be best to use Thermage along with other treatments, such as Fraxel or Velashape.
As with any condition, a comprehensive and well thought out treatment plan can do wonders for your overall appearance. During your Consultation, our expert practitioners will go over your unique goals and create a personalized treatment plan, based on budget and timeframe.
PROS AND CONS OF
Thermage is a procedure that does not cause downtime, so there is no need to take time off from work or schedule around upcoming event. There is a small amount of redness and swelling after the procedure that subsides within a few days.
During the procedure, pain is minimal. For patients with a very low pain tolerance, Thermage offers a great alternative to Ultherapy, which causes moderate discomfort. More invasive laser procedures, such as CO2 laser resurfacing, result in 1-2 weeks of redness, some swelling and peeling of the skin.
Because Thermage is not a laser, all skin types and colors can be treated, without risk for burning or scarring. This is an important advancement over CO2 laser procedures, where the risk of skin discoloration after treatment is quite serious in individuals with olive or darker skin.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Rivkin and the treating nurse will evaluate your unique needs and explain the procedure in detail. You will have the opportunity to view before and after photos, so that you will know what to expect from the treatment. After your treatment Dr. Rivkin will instruct you on the best techniques to care for your skin to maintain your new healthy look.
Dr. Rivkin’s patients know that they can get in touch with him at any time. He’s always in the office at RIVKIN Aesthetics, and is personally involved in every treatment.
