As we age, our skin loses elasticity. It can be quite subtle at first—a line here, a sag there. But time marches on and our skin can often bear the brunt of the aging process. HOW DOES KYBELLA WORK?

Kybella is composed primarily of a synthetic formulation of deoxycholic acid. This is not a foreign substance. Your body naturally creates deoxycholic acid, and its primary purpose is to break down dietary fat. By injecting this synthetically formulated version into a targeted area, Dr. Rivkin is able to, essentially, speed up and enhance the break down of submental fat. The result of this fat breakdown is a slimmer, more youthful looking jawline. The procedure itself can be accomplished in a matter of minutes.
During your consultation with Dr. Rivkin, you will come to a consensus on what you want your final look to be. Before the injections, we will ask you to apply ice to the injection site or, in some instances, a topical numbing agent can be requested. In most cases, however, the injections will go quickly and with minimal discomfort. Dr. Rivkin will administer the injections and you go home. The entire procedure can be accomplished over the time you might schedule your lunch break.
SIDE EFFECTS WITH KYBELLA?
Kybella is a treatment approved by the FDA and well-tolerated by patients as compared to liposuction for reducing a double chin. The recovery process is minimal in most cases. Minor side effects, which subside over time, include swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, and minor discomfort in the area treated.
RECOVERY AND RESULTS
There is no strict recovery period for Kybella injections, though you may want to avoid strenuous exercise for the next couple of days. You should be able to return to work immediately. There may be some mild discomfort, bruising, redness and swelling from the injections, but these can usually be treated with an ice pack and some Tylenol. After your Kybella injection, Dr. Rivkin will provide you with individualized post-injection care instructions.
It’s important, in order to protect the results of your treatment, that you follow those instructions as closely as possible. It will probably take 3 to 6 treatments about 1 month apart in order for you to get full results. It also takes several weeks for the fat breakdown in your chin to begin showing noticeable effects. Optimal effects are usually achieved in roughly twelve weeks, though this can vary based on the desired results and individual variation in the patient.

Kybella is an injectable treatment used to reduce fat under the chin. It has no effect on platysmal bands in the neck or sagging neck muscles. For patients with significant sagging of the skin and muscles of the neck, neck lift surgery may be a more appropriate treatment.

Kybella is a fantastic injectable for reducing submental fat. It works by destroying fat cells, leading to an inflammatory response. Although this can cause swelling in the treated area for a few days, it also tightens the skin in that region. The amount of fat reduction and skin retraction varies from person to person, but I've witnessed excellent results in my clinic.
