Ultherapy Pre and Post Care Instructions Los Angeles, CA

Pre Care

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure
    • For at least 1-2 weeks before treatment: Avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. Sun-damaged skin can be more sensitive, and Ultherapy may cause pigmentation issues on tanned skin.
    • Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day to protect your skin from UV damage.
  2. Discontinue Certain Skincare Products
5-7 days prior to treatment: Stop using any exfoliating or irritating skincare products, such as:
    • Retinoids (e.g., tretinoin)
    • Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)
    • Beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs)
    • Vitamin C serums
    • Exfoliating scrubs

These products can make your skin more sensitive and may increase the risk of irritation during or after the treatment.

  3. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water leading up to your treatment to keep your skin well-hydrated. Hydrated skin may respond better to the ultrasound energy used during Ultherapy.
  4. Avoid Botox or Dermal Fillers
For at least 2 weeks before treatment: Avoid Botox, dermal fillers, or other injectables in the treatment area. These can affect the skin’s structure and might influence how the Ultherapy treatment works.
  5. Arrive with Clean Skin
On the day of the treatment: Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. Make sure your skin is free of lotions, oils, or sunscreens that may prevent the ultrasound gel from working effectively.
  6. Inform Your Provider About Medical Conditions
    • Let your provider know if you have any medical conditions, especially ones related to your skin, such as active acne, eczema, or any autoimmune disorders.
    • Inform them of any medications you are taking, particularly if they affect your skin, healing, or ability to tolerate the treatment.
  7. No Recent Peels/Laser Skin Treatments and No Recent Facial Surgery
    • For at least 4 weeks before treatment: If you’ve had recent peels or laser skin treatments you should wait until your skin has healed before scheduling Ultherapy.
    • For at least 3-6 months before treatment: No facial surgery
  8. Discuss Expectations and Goals
Be sure to communicate your expectations and treatment goals with your provider. They will help tailor the treatment to meet your individual needs.

Post Care

  1. Avoid Sun Exposure
For at least 2 weeks after treatment: Protect your skin from prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds. Ultherapy-treated skin may be more sensitive to UV rays, so wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day to prevent pigmentation issues.
  2. Mild Redness and Swelling Are Normal
    • Immediately post-treatment: Mild redness, swelling, or warmth in the treated area is normal and typically resolves within a few hours to a few days.
    • Cold Compress: You can apply a cool compress to the treated area to reduce any discomfort or swelling.
  3. Avoid Touching or Massaging the Treated Area
For at least 48 hours: Avoid massaging, rubbing, or touching the treated area to avoid irritation or disruption of the healing process. Let your skin heal naturally.
  4. Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water post-treatment to support the healing process and keep your skin hydrated.
  5. No Makeup for the First 24 Hours
For the first 24 hours: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area to allow your skin to breathe and minimize the risk of infection or irritation. After 24 hours, you may resume using makeup if you wish, but make sure to use non-comedogenic and gentle products.
  6. Avoid Heat and Excessive Sweating
For at least 48 hours: Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or activities that induce excessive sweating (like intense exercise). Excessive heat or sweat can irritate sensitive skin.
  7. Avoid Blood Thinners and Alcohol
For at least 48 hours: Refrain from consuming alcohol or taking any blood-thinning medications or supplements (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E), as they may increase the risk of bruising or swelling.
  8. Avoid Facials and Other Skin Treatments
For 1-2 weeks after treatment: Do not undergo other facial treatments, such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments, that might irritate or disrupt the healing process of your skin.
  9. Expect Gradual Improvement
Results: Ultherapy works by stimulating collagen production, so results will gradually become visible over the next 2-3 months. Your skin will continue to improve over time as collagen builds and tightens the skin.
  10. Monitor for Unusual Reactions
    • Normal: Mild redness, swelling, or slight tenderness at the treatment site is common and should subside in a few days.
    • Seek Help: If you experience severe pain, significant swelling, bruising, blistering, or any signs of infection, contact your provider immediately.
