Pre Care
- Avoid Sun Exposure
- For at least 1-2 weeks before treatment: Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners, as these can increase the risk of pigmentation issues and make your skin more sensitive.
- Sunscreen: Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from UV damage.
- Discontinue Certain Skincare Products
5-7 days prior to treatment: Stop using any exfoliating or irritating skincare products, such as:- Retinoids (e.g., tretinoin)
- Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)
- Beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs)
- Vitamin C serums
- Exfoliating scrubs
These products can make your skin more sensitive and may increase the risk of irritation during or after the treatment.
- Avoid Blood Thinners
For 1-2 weeks prior to the treatment: Avoid medications, supplements, or products that thin the blood (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E), as they may increase the risk of bruising or swelling during the treatment. - Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water leading up to your treatment. Hydrated skin responds better to RF microneedling and heals more effectively afterward. - No Waxing or Hair Removal
For at least 1-2 weeks before: Avoid waxing, threading, or depilatory creams in the treatment area. Shaving is fine. - Inform Your Provider About Medications
Let your provider know about any medications you’re taking, particularly if you have any skin conditions or are on medications that could affect skin healing. - Avoid Recent Laser Treatments or Peels
For at least 2 weeks before: Avoid any other laser treatments, chemical peels, or intense exfoliation procedures to prevent excessive irritation or injury to the skin. - Arrive with Clean Skin
On the day of your treatment, come with clean skin, free of makeup, lotions, sunscreen, or any other products that could interfere with the procedure. - Discuss Any Skin Conditions or Concerns
Inform your provider about any skin conditions like active acne, eczema, rosacea, or open wounds, as these may affect how your skin reacts to the treatment.
Post Care
- Avoid Sun Exposure
- For at least 2 weeks after treatment: Stay out of direct sun and avoid tanning beds. The treated skin is more sensitive to UV rays, which can cause pigmentation issues.
- Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily, especially when outdoors. Reapply every 2 hours if exposed to the sun.
- Avoid Touching, Scratching, or Rubbing the Treated Area
For at least 48 hours: Do not touch, scratch, or rub the treated area to avoid irritation or infection. Be gentle when washing your face and applying skincare products. - Mild Redness and Swelling Are Normal
Immediately post-treatment: You may experience redness, swelling, or slight warmth in the treated area. This is a normal reaction and should subside within a few hours to a few days. - Expect Skin Flaking or Peeling
For the first 3-5 days: Light peeling or flaking may occur as the skin heals and regenerates. Avoid picking or pulling at the skin to prevent scarring. - Hydrate and Moisturize
- Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to keep the skin soft and help reduce dryness or tightness.
- Avoid using products with strong active ingredients (such as retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, or Vitamin C) for 5-7 days post-treatment to prevent irritation.
- Avoid Hot Showers, Saunas, and Steam Rooms
For at least 48 hours: Avoid hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms, as these can cause excessive heat and irritation to the treated skin. - Avoid Strenuous Exercise
For 48 hours: Avoid intense physical activity or exercise that causes excessive sweating. Sweat can irritate sensitive skin and increase the risk of infection or inflammation. - Do Not Apply Makeup for the First 24-48 Hours
For the first 1-2 days: Do not apply makeup to the treated area to allow the skin to breathe and heal. After this time, use only non-comedogenic, gentle makeup if needed. - Follow Your Provider’s Skincare Recommendations
Use the recommended post-treatment products or aftercare kits provided by your provider. These are designed to help support your skin’s healing process. - Monitor for Side Effects
- Normal: Mild redness, swelling, and some sensitivity are typical after the treatment.
- Seek Medical Attention: If you experience severe swelling, blistering, signs of infection, or persistent discomfort, contact your provider immediately.
