WHAT IS RESTYLANE?
Restylane is a hyaluronic acid based injectable filler, which lasts about six months. Because it is not animal based, there is no allergy testing required prior to treatment. Hyaluronic acid is a protein found in the joints and tissues of all living things. Restylane is soft, holds its shape, and does not form lumps.

Restylane injections cause no significant pain, swelling, or recovery time. Restylane typically take about 30 minutes. A topical numbing cream is applied prior to treatment. When Dr. Rivkin injects the lips, he numbs the area with a painless Lidocaine dental nerve block under the lip. Small amounts of Restylane are injected into precise locations, and in most cases you will be asked to give feedback so that you have control over your final look. The result is a soft, pliable filled area, which looks natural. After six to eight months your body absorbs the filler and the injections can be repeated, meaning that the treated area can be adjusted to compliment the changes that occur in your face over time. Restylane Silk is a dermal filler designed to help patients achieve plumper, more alluring lips. It is the first FDA-approved filler specifically formulated for augmenting the lips and smoothing wrinkles around the mouth. Lip enhancement with Restylane can give you smooth, soft, fuller lips that look and feel natural. As we grow older, collagen decreases, and we lose the volume of fat under the skin in the face. The lips begin to thin and lose their shape, and vertical lip lines begin to develop around the mouth.
Restylane Silk contains smaller, smoother particles of hyaluronic acid than other dermal fillers. HOW LONG DOES RESTYLANE LAST FOR LIP AUGMENTATION?
Restylane is a Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA)-based gel that instantly adds volume and provides a predictable degree of correction. As hyaluronic acid particles attract water to the skin, results are maintained even as the body begins to break down and absorb the product.
The time between touchup treatments with Restylane varies from patient to patient and depends on the areas treated. For lip augmentations, Restylane fillers can last approximately four to six months, or longer.
WHAT SHOULD I DO TREDUCE SWELLING AND BRUISING WITH RESTYLANE LIP AUGMENTATION?
To help minimize swelling and bruising, avoid Aspirin, Excedrin, Aleve, Advil, and ibuprofen for 10 days before treatment. If you need an over-the-counter painkiller, it is okay to use Tylenol. Also avoid vitamin E, fish oil, St. John’s Wort, and other supplements known to thin the blood. Avoid exercising for 24 hours after the procedure. Walking is a safe exercise.
