Pre Care
- Avoid Sun Exposure
- For at least 2 weeks before treatment: Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanners. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of side effects.
- Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily to protect your skin.
- Discontinue Certain Skincare Products
For at least 5-7 days before treatment: Stop using products that may irritate or exfoliate the skin, such as:- Retinoids (e.g., tretinoin)
- Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs)
- Beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs)
- Vitamin C serums
- Exfoliating scrubs
These products can make your skin more sensitive and increase the risk of irritation during the treatment.
- Avoid Waxing or Hair Removal
For 1-2 weeks prior: Do not wax or use depilatory creams on the treatment area. Shaving is fine. - Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water leading up to your treatment to ensure your skin is well-hydrated. - No Recent Chemical Peels or Laser Treatments
For at least 2 weeks before: Avoid chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or other laser treatments in the same area to reduce the risk of irritation. - Avoid Active Acne or Irritated Skin
If you have active acne or inflammation in the treatment area, it’s best to reschedule the procedure. - Inform Your Provider About Medications
Let your provider know if you’re on any medications, especially ones that make your skin more sensitive to light (e.g., antibiotics like doxycycline or tetracycline). - Arrive with Clean Skin
Come to your appointment with clean skin, free from makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or deodorant in the treated area.
Post Care
- Avoid Sun Exposure
- For at least 2 weeks after treatment: Stay out of direct sun and avoid tanning beds.
- Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every 2 hours, especially if you are outdoors. Reapply more often if sweating or swimming.
- Do Not Pick or Scrub the Treated Area
For 1-2 weeks post-treatment: Avoid scrubbing, exfoliating, or picking at the skin to prevent irritation or scarring. Pigmentation changes or freckles may darken initially, but they will fade as the skin heals. - Hydrate and Moisturize
Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer to soothe any dryness or irritation from the treatment. Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. - Avoid Hot Water, Saunas, and Steam
For 48 hours: Avoid hot showers, saunas, or steam rooms, as they can irritate the skin and increase redness. - Avoid Makeup for the First 24-48 Hours
For the first 1-2 days: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area to allow the skin to heal properly. - Expect Redness and Swelling
Normal Reaction: Redness and mild swelling may occur right after the treatment and should subside within a few hours to a day. If you experience more significant swelling, bruising, or discomfort, contact your provider. - Avoid Strenuous Activities
For 48 hours: Avoid exercise or activities that cause heavy sweating to minimize irritation and allow the skin to heal. - Avoid Other Skin Treatments
For 1-2 weeks: Refrain from having any additional facials, peels, or laser treatments until your skin has fully healed.
