Pre Care
- Avoid Blood Thinners (7–10 Days Before)
- Stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen, or other NSAIDs unless prescribed by a doctor.
- Avoid supplements like vitamin E, fish oil, ginseng, ginkgo biloba, and garlic, as they can increase bruising.
- Skip Alcohol (24–48 Hours Before)
Avoid alcohol to reduce the risk of swelling and bruising. - Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment for optimal skin hydration. - Minimize Caffeine for 24 Hours
Cut back on coffee or energy drinks to avoid dehydration and inflammation. - Avoid Dental Work (2 Weeks Before or After)
Dental treatments can increase infection risk due to bacteria entering the bloodstream. - Postpone if You’re Sick or Have an Active Skin Issue
Reschedule if you have a cold, infection, cold sores, or any active skin irritation (acne, eczema, etc.) in the treatment area. Pretreat if prone to cold sores, let your provider know. - Avoid Retinoids and Harsh Skincare (48 Hours Before)
Stop using retinoids, glycolic acid, or exfoliating products that could make your skin more sensitive. - Eat Pineapple or Take Arnica (Optional)
Pineapple contains bromelain, which may reduce swelling, and Arnica supplements can help prevent bruising. - Come with a Clean Face
Remove all makeup, lotions, and sunscreen before your appointment. - Plan Ahead for Downtime
While there’s minimal recovery, slight swelling or bruising is possible—avoid important events for at least 3–5 days post-treatment.
Post Care
- Avoid Touching or Massaging the Area
- For 24 hours: Refrain from rubbing, massaging, or applying pressure to the treated area to prevent the filler from shifting.
- Exception: If directed by your provider, gentle massage may be recommended for certain types of fillers.
- Avoid Makeup and Skincare
For 4 hours: Do not apply makeup or skincare products to the treated area to prevent irritation and potential infection. - Reduce Swelling and Bruising
- Cold Compress: Apply a clean, cold compress or ice pack for 10-15 minutes every hour if swelling occurs.
- Arnica Gel/Tablets: Use to minimize bruising if recommended by your provider.
- Avoid Alcohol and Blood Thinners: For at least 24 hours post-treatment.
- Avoid Heat and Sun Exposure
For 48 hours: Avoid saunas, hot tubs, intense workouts, or sun exposure to minimize swelling and irritation. - Be Gentle When Cleansing
Wash your face with a mild cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid scrubbing or harsh rubbing. - Limit Strenuous Activities
For 24-48 hours: Avoid heavy workouts that may increase blood flow and swelling/bruising. - Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and promote healing. - Monitor for Side Effects
- Mild swelling, redness, and bruising are normal and should subside within 3-7 days.
- Contact your provider immediately if you experience severe pain, skin discoloration, lumps, or signs of infection.
- Schedule a Follow-Up
Check in with your provider after 2 weeks for any adjustments, especially if asymmetry or unevenness occurs.
